Remote Control Feature with BlackBerry Bridge on PlayBook OS 2.0 (Demo Video)

Mobile Now? Watch Video Here.

Here is another cool feature with the PlayBook OS 2.0 that allows you to remote control your playbook via your BlackBerry device. You will see in this video some features, but you can also control power point presentations and more via your BlackBerry while the PlayBook is connected to a screen with the HDMI.

With the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 software update, and an updated BlackBerry Bridge application for BlackBerry smartphones, the functionality of the two devices will expand to include remote control, Open on PlayBook, and much more. Check out Michael Clewley and Jeff Gadway as they walk through a few of these features at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show.

RIM employees have said a few times in different videos today that PlayBook 2.0 will be available in February, so it does look like this release is still on track for next month.

Not that it is any kind of guarantee but usually soon after a bridge update, and PlayBook OS update also rolls out. Lets hope this is a sign for an upcoming update for the PlayBook also.  Keep in mind after the last PlayBook OS update, future updates will be incremental and usually will not require the entire OS to be downloaded.

Many PlayBook Apps Working Via Bridge without WiFi with Latest Update

blackberry bridge no wifi

With the latest OS update today v1.0.7.2942 Readers have been noticing several of the apps working through Bridge without WiFi with this latest update, although not all of them are it seems that most are. It is nice to see that I can submit my scores and check the weather when no wifi is available now and not need to use the bridged browser.

We do know App World and Kobo are currently not able to do this.

We do know these app are capable.
The WiFi Web Browser
Poynt
Bing
BlackBird
Blackout
Blaq
BlackBerry News
BlueBox
Cassandra Stand
FaceBook
Tweet Search
Weather
Many app that have web based leader boards or rankings are also working.

This list could be endless it appears but it is nice to see native and 3rd party apps working without wifi and taking advantage of the internet while being bridged.

Special thanks to Will and Randy and others who sent stuff in, if you care to share anything else, please leave a comment with this post or chat it up  in our forums about what you’ve noticed.

To test this out, simple turn off your wifi on the PlayBook and turn on bluetooth, then open an app that uses an internet connection and see how it goes.
