This charger uses the magnet charging plug that attaches with the 3-pin charge port on the Playbook. I am amazed at how well the magnet holds in place and it charges at a pretty quick rate. This type of connection also comes in handy if you ever mess up your USB charging port.

Can you do this? Yes you can. I know it’s not Skype but this vastly increases those you can video chat with from your PlayBook. I tested this with my WiFi only PlayBook to my Z10 on a 4G network and it works flawless. Not sure of the bandwidth consumption if your BlackBerry 10 devices is not on WiFi so be careful with that.

Some scenarios you will only be able to start the video chat from the PlayBook to the BlackBerry 10 device and not from the BlackBerry 10 device to the PlayBook. A future Playbook OS update will hopefully resolve this.

To make a call from your Z10 as an example to the PlayBook, simply have the PlayBook call you at least one time, then you can go to the hub on your Z10 and return the call using the notification area.

I do know many are waiting for a PlayBook OS update, but this cool function will be quite handy for communicating with friends and family.

Kaleidoscope is a very fun app. Create fun designs for hours on end. Change the brush, how it gets laid out, and the background color. You can pass the time very easily with this. Create something you liked? Save it to the album so you can go back and admire it. Sure this may be more for kids, but I am sure it will bring out the creative kid in everyone.

Dark Galaxy is an online RPG game. Complete missions and battle enemies. You can even add allies with your invite code. Although there is no real game play, and you just press a button to do things. It is still a great game to play.

Lightbulbs is a very simple game that will keep you entertained for hours. With 200 levels, and increasing the size and difficulty every 50 levels, this will keep you thinking. I’ve played it on both the phone and tablet and it’s great. This game has been around for a while and I still play it all the time, Figured I would share this post for those that don’t know about it. Connect the same color bulbs while covering the whole board to complete the level.

Alpaca Team let us know about the release of their first game, Luke at the Stars. Luke at the Stars won Blackberry Hackathon Best game prize in September 2012. This game offers unique game play and is quite addictive. Be sure to check out the demo video below and see how it is played.

Luke at the Stars is a tiny puzzle game that tells the story of Luke, a little boy who decided to visit the love of his life, but found the door shut close. Sad, he decided to wander around the city looking for a spot to gaze at the stars and think about life, but the skyline was full of tall buildings! He then wishes for the buildings to be gone. You must help him out in this action-puzzle game by combining floors alike and making them disappear, revealing more of his story. Will he ever find the love of his life?

While surfing the newly designed App World for BlackBerry 10 looking for apps worth downloading I was delighted to see Radiant Defense available, a game I truly enjoyed playing on the PlayBook.  I queued it for download, opening it right after completion.  First response.  “it’s so small!”  Immediately attempting pinch zoom to no avail.  “Oh well, let’s play.”  Within a few minutes I found myself frustrated, jabbing my finger like a blunt tool at the screen.  “Why does this phone that handles gestures with ease, suddenly feel awkward and only partially responsive to my touch?”

I don’t know the developer of this game.  I have not attempted to contact them.  Just like any consumer this is the opinion reached by combining my user experience with the assumptions I reached during the process.  I feel that this game is the exact same game that was released for the PlayBook, with no adjustments outside of the target OS.  The game feels comfortable and easy to play on the tablet but small and awkward on the new Z10.  Given the PlayBook’s resolution of 1024×600 pixels with a PPI(Pixels per Inch of 169) and the Z10’s spec of 1280×768 pixels with a PPI of 356 it makes sense that a direct port would be very small on the handset.  If that doesn’t quite make sense to you then check out the visual comparison below(Click on the images for full size).

I still enjoyed playing this game(Even though the Z10 screen continually turns off if you don’t touch it) but I couldn’t help but feel like this game wasn’t made for the device I was playing it on.  I know nothing about game development but I can’t help but the tweaks to optimize this game for the Z10 would be easy enough for a developer that created a quality game in the first place.  I would even be willing to pay a buck or two for the trouble instead of having a free but less enjoyable game.

Pocket Wolves is a small company of independent games developers based in Moscow, Russia and Lamb for the Dragon is their first PlayBook game. Lamb for the Dragon offers both a free and full version, which make it nice for people to give this game a spin.

You are a dragon, who really likes (to eat) sheep but it’s not that easy to get them. The goats are guarded by many people who also need them for some reason.

I really like when a developer creates an application and offers a free version of it so you can give it a try before buying. This free version of Bounce and Bloom is actually a really cool puzzle game but should be geared to kids more than adults, but i will admit I have played it a few times.
