** you don't have permission to see this link **
I grew up playing the SNES and I still enjoy playing a lot of the games. All of my PCs have an SNES emulator and a bunch of ROMS on them. I don't know why, but that is usually one of the first things I put on a new PC. So I was really excited to hear that A7omic and jtokarchuk have released a side-loadable bar file for their port of SNES9x for the BlackBerry PlayBook. This is great news for anyone that is a fan of emulators. Because we now have another option for getting our nostalgic gaming fix.
I've already loaded my entire collection of SNES ROMs to my PlayBook and I've spent some time trying out a lot of them. To be honest, I am very impressed with how well this emulator works. I've used PC emulators that wont run SNES games as well as SNES9x-pb will. The games run at full speed and the music and sounds work like they should. The controls do take a little bit of getting used to, but they work well. I am still able to perfect M. Bison on level 3 difficulty just as easily as I do using a normal SNES controller. So I am happy.
To use SNES9x-pb you will have to side-load it onto your PlayBook. If you do not know how to side-load apps you can follow the guide ** you don't have permission to see this link **. Just scroll down to the part that says "How to side-load apps".
Once you have the app on your PlayBook you will need ROMs to play on it (Remember, only download ROMs for games that you currently own). When you run SNES9x-pb for the first time it will automatically create the following directory on your playbook:
/accounts/1000/shared/misc/snes9x-pb/
Inside of that directory you will find a folder named "rom". Simply drag and drop all of your .smc files into that rom folder and the next time you launch SNES9x-pb they will be ready to play. You can scroll through your ROMs using the little fast froward arrow at the bottom of the screen.

Sorry to hear that. I'm not sure what would be causing it. I haven't heard of anyone else with that problem. Just out of curiosity, what OS do you have on your PlayBook? Are you rooted?

I submitted the app to App World however there is no guarantee they will approve it as is. If there are issues it could take weeks to resolve so instead of just sitting on this without knowing for sure when/if it will be release I decided to release it so you can all enjoy it now. When you run Snes for Playbook for the first time it will automatically creates a number of default directories as well as the default configuration file and the default test rom file. These default test rom will be run during this first execution of the program. So got the PlayBook back from the ** you don't have permission to see this link ** – brand new one, too. Now, to convince the rest of the office that I'm the one that needs to hang onto it for "work purposes"…
