Warpatron BlackBerry PlayBook App. Take Special Effect Photos Directly on your Playbook.

Greg let us know about Warpatron for the BlackBerry PlayBook that takes snapshots with special effects directly on your BlackBerry® PlayBook.

Warpatron allows you take snapshots on your Playbook, with a difference. Three tabs on the left of the screen allow you to select the special effect, change parameters of the current effect and optionally add a picture frame. Once a special effect is chosen, you’ll see a full screen real-time preview using the selected camera (front or back – switchable). The parameters of the special effects can be changed through the parameter tab panel or more conveniently by using multi-touch (1 or 2 touch controls depending on the effect) interface, again seeing the changes in real-time. Take the picture, see the result and choose to save it as a JPG or PNG to your photo library. Each effect has an information panel detailing the parameter function and showing how the touch controls work for this particular effect.

To expand the tabs on the left-hand side, simply tap on them. The panel will open for you to make your selection/changes. Tap on the blue ‘Close’ icon at the top of the panel to hide it. If the screen is not touched for a few seconds and no tab panels are show, the interface will be hidden to just show the current effect. Tapping the screen at any time will restore the interface.

The buttons on the right of the screen, from top to bottom are :-

  • ‘i’ for information : this will show a simple help indicator page instructions of what icons and tabs do, with a panel in the center showing some information about myself and link to this web-page for further support.
  • ‘the camera’ : tap this to take a picture for saving, using the current effect and parameters. Once the image is taken, it is displayed along with buttons to save it or discard it.
  • ’switch cameras’ : the Blackberry Playbook has two cameras, front and back. Tap this to switch between them

Those not familiar with  PixelMags you can look forward to a  fully interactive and user-friendly experience with some of the top magazines available.

Grooveshark is a Great Site to Stream Music via your BlackBerry PlayBook

James let us know that the music site GrooveShark is now working with the BlackBerry PlayBook browser. The site used to not work, but now it works like a charm.

I added songs to the queue from Styx and listened to some great music.

BlackBerry PlayBook OS Updated to v.1.0.8.4985

This  Thanksgiving you can now include a PlayBook update to be thankful for with OS v1.0.8.4985. Not a ton of new features, but you do get several fixes and improvements.  The size of my download is 92MB. If you notice anything else new, leave a comment.

The BlackBerry PlayBook OS v1.0.8.4985 contains the following fixes and updates:

  • Updated version of Adobe® Flash® Player version 11.1 and Adobe AIR® 3.1
  • Daylight savings time updates for time zones in the regions of Latin America, Australia and Central America
  • Updated Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi® software to help to improve connectivity
  • Fixed issues some users were experiencing with account payments in the BlackBerry App World™ storefront
  • Improved synching when restoring applications with BlackBerry Desktop Software

This update also includes a security update for Adobe Flash Player, as noted in Adobe Security Bulletin APSB-11-28, which addresses issues that can potentially affect any PC, tablet, or other device with an operating system that supports Adobe Flash.

For users who are already running BlackBerry PlayBook v1.0.7.2942 or higher, the update to this new version (v1.0.8.4985) will include only the Adobe Flash Player update and is expected to take only a few minutes to install.
