User ubermanx got a letter (shown above) from RIM and shared it at CrackBerry. By the look of it, you can see that RIM is not going to re-stock the 16GB PlayBook in the retail market. Look for the 32GB and 64GB PlayBook to be the models of choice.
This makes really good sense to me, especially with the current price break down for the PlayBook. The 32GB and 64GB are at a nice price point and allows the user to have a solid entry point with plenty of storage. I do have a 16gb PlayBook and have not run out of room, but as more great games become available, the 16GB will simply run out of space.
CrackBerry did approach RIM for a statement on the letter and this was the reply.
“In regards to your question about the 16G PlayBook -there is more value for our customers in the higher capacity models (32 GB, 64 GB), and as such we have decided to focus our efforts there.“
I will create this post as a topic in the Forum (link below), and would love to hear some feedback.

I also have a 16GB unit, loaded with off-line maps for three GPS apps, games, loads of pictures, books and music and still have 5.5GB of available memory. Figure I could easily cut 2 or 3 gigs if needed.
So while I am puzzled I guess units with 32 or 64GB ” look more professional” and I think that is the market RIM is aiming at.
Will those of us with the 16gb playbook still get updates and things like that after they discontinued the 16gb version?
Yes it will continue to be supported with software updates. The OS on the 16gb is the same as the 32 and 64gb. They will just not make the 16gb version anymore.
